According to WHO the dimensions of health consisted in “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity” so if anything run in the opposite direction means a negative health impact. Mental health affects our state of mind which is associated with our emotional behavior, psychological impacts, and social well-being. Mental health is one of the most ignored barricades in most parts of the world. Majority of the people living without knowing they are suffering from mental health issues.

What is Mental Health?

There is very less debate on mental health issues globally. While there is strong evidence available on how we should seriously talk about it. Stats show that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. approximately 130 American dies by suicide in every day.

Nearly 1million people commit suicide every year globally. 1% of Americans are affected by schizophrenia. One in five U.S adults lives with a diagnosable mental disease. Psychological disabilities are also common among the U.S population. All these shreds of evidence clearly speaking out on the importance of the awareness of mental health issues among the masses.

Causes of Mental Health Issues

There is a bunch of reason behind mental health-related issues, it may be the combination of several social and psychological factors. There are some potential factors that can cause it.

Social Isolation or Discrimination:

The inability to share your inner thoughts and feeling with others that’s what we call social isolation. A socially isolated person rarely engages with the community, there are thousands of reasons behind it. It can occur during any phase of life like the death of a very close one, divorce, and moving to a new place, or social and household disputes. It’s better to consult with someone most probably a health professional or your very close ones, Remember! Having a conversation is better than assuming something on your own.

Feeling discrimination is another type of isolation, Discrimination like racial, Body shaming, bullying, different ethnicity pushes someone to keep himself away from the masses. There is a need for mutual efforts from the community to handle this issue. A collective effort can be fruitful, International organizations and media should play their role in this cause.

Poverty:

Recent data shows that 10.5% of the U.S population is under the poverty line, about 9.2% of the world population living in extreme poverty. While there are huge class differences among the people, this unequal distribution of wealth leads to the risk of mental health. A relatively low standard lifestyle, fewer opportunities, and low facilities can be proven to be harmful. Achieving a better lifestyle can be stressful and comes up with many stressful hours. There must be some amendments to eliminate poverty by the state to ensure the better mental health of the masses.

Childhood Trauma:

Several studies show that there is a significant relationship between poor mental conditions and childhood trauma. Still, it is emotionally painful and distressful it also left a long-lasting impact on an individual’s mental health, academic life and in some cases creates a negative impact on his physical health too.

Childhood trauma can appear in any shape like bullying/accidents, sexual abuse, death of a loved one, war, terrorism, forced migration, etc.

In the U.S almost half of the children population from 12-17 faces childhood trauma. Parents and guardians should be more attentive at the beginning, they should monitor the behavior of their child, be friendly, and be more open to them. Talk to them, have some consultation and help them to get rid of it at the very initial stage rather than letting them suffer alone. While a victim should take care of himself, forget what happens in the past, be thankful for everything. Don’t fall into the trap of bad habits.

Domestic Violence:

Domestic violence is the leading cause of mental health issues among women. The majority of the women were abused by their partners. After suffering from such relationships many women complain about suffering from depression, having panic attacks a post-traumatic syndrome, and flashbacks.

Why Mental Health is Important to Address:

Although the stigma against mental health disorders is very strong till now, the perception is changing gradually. Society needs to debunk these harmful stereotypes. There need to bring in more amendments by talking about mental illness on every possible platform. Doing workshops, having lectures organizing seminars to create mass awareness. So that we can create opportunities for the people who are hesitant to get treatment by considering it taboo.

Open up about your suffering is the only possible way to deal with it, making channels for the people who want to help you. Consulting a psychiatrist in Cleveland is always a good idea. They are professionals with a lot of understanding of psychological issues. We don’t ignore if we found any disorder we should treat it as soon as possible.
